Molecular Langmuir–Blodgett Film for Silicon Anode Interface Engineering

Silicon-based anodes are widely expected to vastly improve the performance of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, silicon anode interface is well-known be unstable and reactive, leading various electrolyte side reactions that would ultimately lower battery performance. Consequently, it critically important rationally design stabilize its interface. The Langmuir–Blodgett (LB) technique a well-established, versatile, powerful method for fabricating ultrathin films over solid substrates. Here, we utilize LB approach generate thin composed small organic molecules electrodes as protective layers. Such molecular layers were found capable mediating electrochemical behavior in both aqueous carbonate electrolytes. This study illustrates applicability small-molecule electrode engineering LIB technology development.
